This award provided funding to the Town of Harrellsville to extend a waterline that provided additional capacity to support expansion at Sandy Land Peanut Company, improved water flow and pressure in the town’s water system, and provided redundant service to properties in the area. Sandy Land Peanuts had been unable to expand its facility because existing water service does not meet the associated fire protection requirements. Sandy Land Peanut Company planned to invest over $5 million in the expansion and add at least 15 full-time jobs over three years and additional seasonal workers. The project also provided new opportunities to local peanut farmers as the expansion increased Sandy Land’s production capabilities from 30 million to 50 million pounds. Golden LEAF funds were used for construction-related costs of the new water infrastructure.
