The purpose of this grant was to provide funding to the Dunn Police Athletic and Activities League (Dunn PAL) for the “Career Readiness and Workforce Development” project. Dunn PAL planned to partner with Central Carolina Community College, Harnett County Schools, and local workforce development centers to assist youth who might not have wished to attend college in learning a trade and entering the local labor force. Training was offered in various fields, including electrical work, auto mechanics, construction, HVAC, media arts (such as videography and photography), car body repair, computer repair, and information technology.
Additionally, students participated in a comprehensive workforce development program that covered both soft skills and general employability skills. Upon completion of the program, students earned an industry-recognized credential. Golden LEAF funds were allocated for equipment and supplies to enhance the career readiness lab, as well as for student transportation and industry tours or field trips.
