After the devastation caused by flooding stormwater during and after Hurricane Florence, the town identified a need to improve the resiliency of the stormwater systems. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used to enable the completion of a stormwater study. The town initiated a stormwater fee beginning in the 2020 fiscal year. Fees are being used towards implementing the recommendations of the plan.
