Flooding as a result of Hurricane Florence damaged the Pembroke Rescue Squad (PRS) building, destroyed a rescue truck, and damaged equipment. Repairing the building required the PRS to bring it into code compliance. Elevation was not an option given the location of the building. The PRS acquired a building suitable following renovation to relocate the station out of the floodplain. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used for the construction and renovation of the building to serve as the new Pembroke Rescue Squad station. FEMA Public Assistance and Insurance proceeds were also used to repair some of the damage caused by the storm.
