Flooding resulting from Hurricane Matthew caused significant damage to several Robeson County public school facilities. The Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds supported repairs to W.H. Knuckles Elementary, West Lumberton Elementary, and the school system’s transportation department. Funds also supported the relocation of the school system’s central office and maintenance warehouse. Funding from FEMA was not sufficient to repair and replace these facilities. Golden LEAF grant funds allowed the Public Schools of Robeson County to meet the deductible on its insurance through the North Carolina Department of Instruction and access insurance proceeds that were used for this work.
