This grant provided funding to Hertford County Public Schools (HCPS) for a two-year, middle school STEM project that provided professional development for teachers in developing STEM career pathways curriculum materials. The project helped students participate in career development activities and develop skills in demand by local employers such as Berry Plastics and Nucor Steel. This project included the creation of a STEM learning lab that brings an academic and career exploration foundation to all HCPS middle school students. The STEM curriculum was developed in collaboration with local employers, the Region Q Workforce Development Board and the Chamber of Commerce. Golden LEAF funds were used for the STEM learning lab, professional development and field trips to enhance career exploration.
