Description:

This grant provided funding to the Town of Lake Santeetlah, a mountain-lake community that experienced frequent flooding during very heavy rains which overran culverts and natural drainage ditches. Overflow caused water to rush down the road instead of staying in the ditch, making driving on the steep roads slick and dangerous. Rushing water also undermined the sides of the otherwise well-maintained roads. Households located along the roads leading up and down the mountain benefitted from the completion of the project. Golden LEAF funds were used to pave and deepen the ditches to stop road erosion and direct water downhill and away from the roads, eventually leading to culverts installed to discharge the stormwater into the lake. The town is responsible for continued maintenance of the drainage ditches and culverts.
