To me, serving as an intern at Golden LEAF means pouring back into my community and those alike. I have the chance to engage with and learn from like minded people who want to work towards a better future for rural North Carolina.
What have you learned that you didn’t think would be a part of this internship?
I have learned the importance of flexibility. There isn’t a day where I expect to be doing the same type of tasks. There is always something new to learn and adapt to which is fun.
What are some of your favorite things you do as an intern at Golden LEAF?
My favorite thing to do as a Golden LEAF intern is to interview affiliates of the Golden LEAF Foundation such as scholars, alumni, and staff. It’s always a joy to listen to their stories. I also get the chance to flex my creativity and write articles about them.
Describe Golden LEAF in three words.
Warming, Efficient, and Devoted.
What type of work do you want to do when you graduate?
I want to work towards getting my PhD in Southern American studies and furthering my relationship with academia as a professor. I’d also like to explore working within the realm of law as it relates to female incarceration.
Would you like to share any words of advice for prospective interns?
Take advantage of every moment you spend here and absorb as much as you can from everyone!
How is working at Golden LEAF preparing you for your future career?
Working at Golden LEAF has prepared me for my future by allowing me to learn more about serving my community on an interpersonal level. I believe this is important if I want to teach others about the South.
