Each Golden LEAF project is supported by two Golden LEAF staff members: a Primary Staff member (typically a Program Officer) and a Program Lead. This model ensures there is always more than one point of contact to answer questions, provide guidance, and keep your project moving forward. Our goal is to help you reach your milestones and outcomes as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Golden LEAF announces $8.4 million in funding, welcomes new Board member at October meeting

At the October 2025 meeting, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors awarded a total of $8.4 million in funding to support long-term economic advancement. The Golden LEAF Board awarded $2.7 million to support seven projects through the Open Grants Program, $1 million to support a SITE Program project, and $1 million to support a project at East Carolina University. The Golden LEAF Board awarded an additional $220,000 for Hurricane Helene relief and $502,411 in the Flood Mitigation Program. The Board also approved $2.9 million in funding for the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority to administer the Golden LEAF Colleges and Universities Scholarship.

Baptists on Mission help families return to their homes in Western North Carolina through funding partnerships and volunteers

When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, the Baptists on Mission organization was ready to respond. The organization mobilized thousands of volunteers to help families recover and rebuild. With support from $2.94 million in funding from the Golden LEAF Foundation, the Baptists on Mission organization has already helped 521 families return home and has another 240 homes currently under repair. More than 1,300 applications for assistance have been received to date, underscoring the long road to recovery ahead.

Eastern and Western North Carolina food hubs expand opportunities for farmers and food entrepreneurs

Food hubs in both Eastern and Western North Carolina are working to grow their reach, support more farmers, and increase access to local food thanks in part to strategic funding from the Golden LEAF Foundation. Across Southeastern North Carolina, Feast Down East is scaling its operations to meet rising demand from farmers and buyers. The Golden LEAF Foundation Board of Directors awarded Feast Down East $250,000 through the Open Grants Program to increase refrigeration and storage capacity at its Burgaw food hub and Wilmington satellite location.

Golden LEAF Food Distribution Assistance Program expands access to food across NC

The North Carolina General Assembly appropriated $10 million to the Golden LEAF Foundation for the Food Distribution Assistance Program, a one-time initiative to strengthen the state’s food distribution network. Funded by federal State Fiscal Recovery Funds through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the program was designed to expand the capacity of nonprofits working alongside food banks to address food insecurity.

The toolkit includes innovative partnership models that are meeting the evolving workforce demands of the state’s advanced manufacturing sector, particularly in rural areas. The toolkit is designed to equip rural-serving colleges with practical strategies to expand training, strengthen employer partnerships, and meet regional labor demands. The resource includes real-world examples of how colleges are implementing solutions such as apprenticeship programs supported by ApprenticeshipNC, and customized training programs offered through NCEdge. These efforts are part of a larger push to align education and training with high-demand career pathways in advanced manufacturing.

Recently, the Golden LEAF Foundation announced that 215 students from 58 rural North Carolina counties were selected to receive up to a $14,000 Golden LEAF Scholarship.  This scholarship provides high school seniors entering a four-year North Carolina college or university with $3,500 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Community college transfer students are eligible for $3,500 a year for up to three years of undergraduate study.
