Wolfsnare Lane Culvert Improvement Project

Organization:
Town of Morrisville
Amount:
$250,000.00
Program Area:
Flood Mitigation and Recovery Program
County of Applicant:
Wake
Year:
2022
Description:

The Wolfsnare Lane intersection immediately off the Crabtree Crossing Parkway in Morrisville experiences frequent flooding during average storm events which affects homes and public roads, and prevents egress from residential parking areas. An undersized culvert on Wolfsnare Lane restricts flows, resulting in backwaters that overtop the roadway and cause surface runoff on Walnut Forest Lane and Crabtree Crossing Parkway. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to upsize the existing culvert and improve existing channel berms to accommodate the backflows and mitigate flooding in nearby areas. This area of concern was identified in Morrisville’s Stormwater Master Plan and included in its 10-Year Capital Improvement Plan. The flow of stormwater to the area has been affected by recent development and the upsizing of a culvert upstream of the project area by the North Carolina Railroad. The town has determined the culvert and roadside swale downstream of the project area are adequately sized to carry the flows from the upsized culvert without inundating Crabtree Crossing Parkway. Households and one business located in the immediate project area will benefit from this project.
