High water from Hurricane Matthew damaged the historic Will Willis Store & Fish House and dock. The building and dock were built in the 1930s and provide the only public access to the Ocracoke Harbor other than a National Park Service boat ramp. The building serves as a meeting space and education center, while several charter and tour businesses use the dock as their base of operation. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funding will be used to replace the support system of the Will Willis Store & Fish House structure, demolish and rebuild the dock, and repair exterior and interior areas of the structure.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
