Description:

This award provides funding to the Wilkes Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to construct multi-tenant building space. The EDC seeks to meet the need of companies looking for building space of 20,000 square feet or less by building a 31,200-square-foot flex multi-tenant building for commercial or light industrial use on a 4.8-acre site it owns. The EDC has documented demand from businesses interested in spaces of that size in the county. In addition to renting space in the building, the EDC will offer ongoing business support, including mentoring, and professional legal, accounting, and marketing consultations to tenants of the center. Anticipated outcomes for the project include two new businesses locating in the building, 25 new jobs created, and a capital investment of $2,250,000 in public infrastructure. Golden LEAF funds will be used for design work, site work, and construction cost.
