Description:

This award provides funding to Craven Community College to support the development and implementation of a heavy equipment operator program and the creation of a construction trade/light manufacturer incubator at the Volt Center. The Volt Center is a one-stop workforce development training center that opened in 2019 and has trained nearly 1,000 students in construction and related skills. Significant growth in residential and commercial development is expected in Eastern North Carolina over the next five to ten years which will result in an increased demand for equipment operators and construction sub-contractors. The college plans to renovate two structures to house the new heavy equipment operator program and the small business incubator. The project expects that 88 students will earn a credential annually. Golden LEAF funds will be used for the renovation of the structures.
