Sturgeon City is an educational facility established in partnership with the City of Jacksonville located along the bank of the New River. The facility includes a public water access on the New River. The high water level and winds during Hurricane Florence damaged the floating dock and canoe/ kayak launch located at the end of the boardwalk. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to enable repair of the canoe/ kayak launch. FEMA Public Assistance is not available for this project. Sturgeon City serves approximately 3,000 students at the facility each year. The launch is open to the public.
