North Carolina State University
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:

This grant provides funding to the Agricultural Institute at North Carolina State University (NCSU) to establish educational, vocational, and mentoring opportunities for military personnel leaving the armed services and veterans that want to transition into a career in agriculture. The program will work with the Career Resource Center at Ft. Bragg to provide training throughout the year. The project will also offer program completers mentorship opportunities in rural North Carolina communities. Expected outcomes for the project include training 100 transitioning soldiers and veterans, with many program completers moving into agriculture-related employment or enrolling in further agriculture education programs. Golden LEAF funds will be used for the program coordinator salary, equipment, and other program-related costs.
