This grant provided funding to install a waterline in the West Smithfield area to support economic development in Smithfield and Johnston County. This project was part of a larger effort to increase the supply of water from the Town of Smithfield to the Johnston County delivery point along US-70, which helped Johnston County meet the growing demand for water in the Clayton area, including at Novo Nordisk and Grifols, which were both expanding. The line also served an industrial park that was being created in Smithfield adjacent to the line’s location. Golden LEAF funds were used for waterline construction.
