Skyline Drive Culvert Replacement Project

Organization:
Town of Canton
Amount:
$160,400.00
Program Area:
Flood Mitigation and Recovery Program
County of Applicant:
Haywood
Year:
2022
Description:

The Town of Canton experienced flooding along Skyline Drive during Tropical Storm Fred. As a result, approximately 75 feet of the existing stormwater infrastructure experienced joint failure that led to a collapse of the overlying soil and blocked the culvert. The joint failure led to unstable slopes along the downstream side of the ditch and loss of supporting soils for the roadway curb and gutter outfall pipe. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to replace and improve the existing public infrastructure along Skyline Drive. Improvements include increasing the diameter of the piping and installation of an NCDOT headwall. Additionally, two catch basins will be connected to the pipe. Residents that live along Skyline Drive will benefit from the completion of this project.
