This Golden LEAF grant will provide funding to Henderson County to construct wastewater infrastructure that is critical to Tri-Hishtil, a new company looking to locate a production facility in Mills River that will produce grafted vegetable plants. Tri-Hishtil is a collaboration among three businesses from eastern North Carolina, Israel, and Italy. The grafted plants will be more disease resistant, reduce input costs, meet demand for a production option to counter recent fumigant restrictions, limit crop rotation and associated expenses, and enable production on farms facing soil challenges. The company plans to create 125 jobs with average annual wages of $37,000 per year plus benefits. The sewer expansion will also benefit several neighboring companies. Golden LEAF funds will be used for the sewer expansion.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
