This award provides funding to the Town of Harrellsville to extend a waterline that provide additional capacity to support expansion at Sandy Land Peanut Company, improve water flow and pressure in the town’s water system, and provide redundant service to properties in the area. Sandy Land Peanuts cannot expand its facility because existing water service does not meet the associated fire protection requirements. Sandy Land Peanut Company plans to invest over $5 million in the expansion and add at least 15 full-time jobs over three years and additional seasonal workers. The project will also provide new opportunities to local peanut farmers as the expansion will increase Sandy Land’s production capabilities from 30 million to 50 million pounds. Golden LEAF funds will be used for construction-related costs of the new water infrastructure.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
