This grant provides funding to Rockingham County for construction of the Rockingham County Livestock Marketing Complex. The complex will be a facility centrally located in Rockingham County that farmers will be able to use to aggregate and load out truckload groups of calves, improving their profits. The complex will also be used to provide hands-on training for cattle producers on recommended practices. The facility will be open to the public on equal terms and not limited to use by any single group of farmers. The county expects that the facility will be used 24 times per year, with over 100 head of cattle sold during each use. It also expects 200 participants per year for training. Golden LEAF funds will be used to construct a 6 foot by 120 foot building and to purchase equipment for holding and loading cattle.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
