The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the Town of Tarboro to upgrade its utility capacity to provide a sufficient and more reliable energy supply to support the load required for expansion of production by Superior Essex of its cable product line. Superior Essex considered expansion in Texas, Kansas and Tarboro. The Tarboro plant currently has 238 employees and the expansion would result in the creation of 116 jobs over five years, with 64 jobs being created in the first two years. The average annual wage for the new positions will be $41,289 plus benefits.
