East Main and South Canal Streets experience frequent flooding as a result of undersized infrastructure which quickly reaches capacity during rain events and a railbed that causes a damming effect. The water overtops the intersection and floods adjacent structures. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used for engineering and construction to replace existing pipe with larger pipe and install new pipe with various sized stormwater boxes to redirect flow properly to a swamp. Households, businesses, and the Public Works building in the immediate area will benefit from this project.
