The Old Nags Head Place subdivision experiences frequent flooding in the cul-de-sac at the southern end of Linda Lane. Over time, the capacity and condition of the original drainage system consisting of shallow vegetated swales has been compromised by normal sedimentation and build up from the roadway, encroachments from residential driveways, and assorted landscaping encroachments from residences. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to restore approximately 5,680 linear feet of vegetated swales and install approximately 2,420 linear feet of storm drainage pipe. Households located in the immediate project area will benefit from completion of the project. Once completed, town staff will continue to be responsible for annual long-term maintenance including regular mowing, culvert jetting, and debris removal. The town has also budgeted for maintenance cycles to ensure that the flood control benefits are not compromised.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
