This award provides funding to the Town of Maysville to establish a workforce development training center in collaboration with Lenoir Community College to be located in a vacant building owned by the town. The town has identified a need for skilled workers in the areas of water & sewer municipal systems maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and healthcare. The workforce development/skilled training courses and associated apprenticeship programs will be coordinated by and offered through Lenoir Community College. The college and the town have entered a memorandum of understanding pursuant to which the college will provide training and training equipment at the facility. The project expects 110 students to complete continuing education courses in water and sewer maintenance, construction trades, and healthcare annually. Golden LEAF funds will be used to renovate and upfit the vacant building.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
