Hurricane Florence damaged Lumberton’s raw water river intake and well system. Eighty percent of the daily source water for the water treatment plant comes from the raw water river intake. Due to power outages and flooding during Hurricane Florence, the city could only operate a portion of their wells, requiring the city to take conservation measures while the main intake was repaired. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to to elevate the generator at the raw water intake and make other mitigation improvements to enable continued service during flood events.
