The City of Statesville experiences flooding and overtopping of the roadway along Lucille Street. The city reports that it can take up to 24 hours for water to dissipate upstream. The city began a Stormwater Program in 2019 and this project was brought forth as one of two priority repairs for this current fiscal year. City engineers identified that the existing stormwater culvert is damaged and undersized. Golden LEAF mitigation grant funds will be used to replace the existing and damaged culvert with a larger culvert. Increasing the size of the culvert, as well as using stronger materials, will allow the area to convey a 10-year storm event. Households in the immediate project area that will benefit from this project. Improvements will also protect a sewer main and a water main that are susceptible to being washed out when the road experiences a flooding event.
