Backstreet and Long Street experience flooding resulting from a lack of stormwater infrastructure. The roads and surrounding area experience intermittent flooding, resulting in road overtopping along Backstreet, Long Street, and Jefferson Avenue. Town funds have been used for repairs and construction of a berm alongside a home that floods. A business owner has installed drainage piping and has agreed to install detention systems on private property to help address the flooding. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used for engineering and construction to install approximately 867 linear feet of stormwater piping with associated catch basins and drainage inlets along Long Street and Backstreet to convey stormwater in a controlled manner down to Jefferson Avenue and tie into existing NCDOT stormwater infrastructure. Households and businesses in the immediate area will benefit from this project.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
