Hyde Park Street experiences frequent flooding during moderate rain events due to undersized culverts which trap sediment and debris, causing the Jennie’s Gut tributary to back up. Water overtops the road and causes damage by erosion and affects nearby school traffic. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used for engineering and construction to upsize the culvert under Hyde Park Street. Town funds have been used to bring in pumps to draw down the water level to reopen roads, clear debris from the culverts and shore up the eroding road. Households, public/private entities in the immediate project area, and all users of the road will benefit from this project.
