This award provides funding to Elizabeth City Pasquotank Public School (ECPPS) to support a new educational opportunity for high school students. ECPPS will establish high school career academies where students will complete general high school requirements in a smaller learning community while participating in workforce preparedness in the areas of aviation, agriscience, and engineering. The academies are expected to serve 60 new students annually across two high schools. Workforce preparedness, including job shadowing, soft-skill development, and internships, will be integrated into coursework throughout the course sequence. The Chamber of Commerce, STEM East, and local industries will create a business advisory board for the program that will inform school partners about industry needs and secure real-world opportunities for the students. Golden LEAF funds will be used for technology, professional development, supplies and materials, and student credentialing.
