This award provides funding to Rockingham Community College (RCC) to support the expansion of its welding program to address a shortage of welders in the region. The Greensboro region of the Piedmont-Triad Prosperity Zone has a need for over 200 welders annually. RCC will renovate its Industrial Technologies II Building to create space to increase the number of welding booths. Over the next three years, the college projects to increase enrollment in curriculum programs significantly and to add students in new continuing education programs. The college has earmarked $4.78 million in state bond funds and local sales tax funds to renovate the building. Golden LEAF funding will be used for equipment purchases.
