Hurricane Matthew Recovery: Cross Creek Cemetery Bank Stabilization Project

City of Fayetteville
Amount:

Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Cumberland
Year:

Description:
Hurricane Matthew caused a large section of Fayetteville’s Cross Creek bank to shear off and slide into the creek. Three city-owned buildings and 25 city-owned grave sites were at risk as the bank further destabilized. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were to stabilize the buildings and provided the required match for Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) funding. FEMA, NRCS, and other available funds were not sufficient to complete this project without Golden LEAF support.
