This award provides funding to HIGHTS Inc. to support the regional HIGHTS Workforce Preparedness Project in Jackson, Swain, Macon, and Haywood Counties. This new project is a two-year program that will serve 16- to 24-year-olds who are disengaged, in post-secondary transition, and who need support determining a career pathway and identifying and participating in training. HIGHTS will pair participants with career mentors, place participants in paid or non-paid work-based experiences, and provide career exploration and post-secondary enrollment support. The work-based learning will be focused on high-demand industries such as healthcare, construction, technology, and automotive. Forty-five participants are expected to complete at least one curriculum and/or continuing education course or program through Asheville-Buncombe Community College. Ten individuals are expected to earn at least one industry/third party certification, license, or other credentials in their job training program. Sixty individuals will receive meaningful exposure to local careers. Golden LEAF funding will be used for personnel, travel and transportation, paid work-based learning experiences, support services, and technology.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
