This grant provided funding to the City of Greensboro to assist with extending sewer to the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite, an approximately 1,550-acre site comprised of property that was owned or controlled by Randolph County, the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite Foundation (GRMF), and the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR). At the time of the application, the partners had invested over $27 million in land acquisition and other related site development expenses. The site is located south of Greensboro in Randolph County, adjacent to Highway 421. At the time of the application, the city believed that the site could attract a high yield project that could create 1,750 new jobs and $500 million in new capital investment. The site had been considered by three automotive projects among others and KPMG Global Advisors had designated the site a certified site. The infrastructure completed with Golden LEAF funds consisted of a pump station and sewer force main. This is the site on which Toyota subsequently located its battery manufacturing plant.
