Description:

This Golden LEAF grant will provide funding to Forsyth Technical Community College to construct a skilled-trades building on its campus in Walnut Cove to provide Stokes County residents with local opportunities for curriculum courses and workforce preparation. Golden LEAF support will enable Forsyth Tech to build and equip about 5,000 square feet of usable space for programs in welding, electricity, plumbing, and horticulture. Completion of the facility is expected in 2019. Forsyth Tech and Stokes County Schools will set up career pathways for high school students to earn college credit in technical programs offered through the facility. Forsyth Tech will also work to identify and schedule training classes in the skilled trades to meet the ongoing needs and interests of local business, industry, entrepreneurs and other county residents. Golden LEAF funds will be used for construction and to equip the labs.
