This award provides funding to James Sprunt Community College (JSCC) to establish a new machining program to increase the pool of industrial maintenance mechanics in Duplin County. Those industries currently average 44 advertised job openings monthly. Offerings will include registered apprenticeships for Maintenance Mechanic through the NC Apprenticeship program. By June 2024, JSCC anticipates graduating 20 curriculum students and 60 continuing education students, with 60 students earning at least one third-party credential. They expect fifty students will obtain employment in the field. The program will be housed at the WestPark Industry Training Center where the JSCC Truck Driver Training Program is located. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel, equipment, and building renovations and upgrades.
