Description:

Downtown businesses in West Jefferson experience frequent flooding due mainly to impervious surfaces around the town park and public works lot. During flooding events, town maintenance staff must put out barricades and sandbags to divert people from flooded areas and then cleanup debris after the floodwaters recede. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to construct two stormwater detention features located in publicly owned and maintained areas of the town, one at the public works building and one at the town park. Businesses located in the immediate project area that will benefit from completion of the project. Once completed, the town will continue to be responsible for the maintenance of the stormwater detention basins.
