Carteret County General Hospital is located in close proximity to Bogue Sound and is severely affected by hurricanes and other major storms. For example, during Hurricane Florence, the hospital ran on generated power for seven days. Water is essential to both the care of patients and to maintenance of the hospital’s systems. Although the hospital did not lose water during Hurricane Florence or other recent storms, the loss of municipal water services would severely impact hospital operations. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to enable installation of a backup water well on the hospital’s campus.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
