This grant provides funding to Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC) to support DDCC’s Emergency Medical Sciences (EMS) program in Davie County. DDCC currently offers initial and renewal courses at the EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic credentialing levels as well as an EMT credential as a pathway for the Career and College Promise program to further high school students’ education through dual enrollment. DDCC has offered EMS programs in Davie County in various locations with shared equipment in recent years while DDCC plans for a new health sciences center there. In response to new requirements from the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services that include dedicated space and equipment, DDCC has identified a location on the Davie Campus for interim use until the new health science center is constructed. DDCC expects to train 50 traditional and dually enrolled students to enter the EMS career field and 20 currently in the field seeking to advance their careers by moving into paramedic roles, annually. Golden LEAF funds will be used for equipment and technology for the Davie Campus EMS program.
