This award provides funding to support the expansion of the CNC machining program at Stanly Community College (SCC) in response to the growing need for CNC machinists in Stanly County and surrounding areas. SCC is constructing a 32,000 sq. ft. trades education facility which is scheduled to be complete in December 2024, and has dedicated 7,155 sq. ft. of classroom and lab space in this new facility to the machining program. This will triple the space available for machining and accommodate six pieces of equipment required to expand capacity from 12 students to 20 per cohort for CNC machining and from 12 to 16 for manual machining. SCC will also develop continuing education courses to create opportunities for employers to upskill their existing workforce. Golden LEAF funds will be used to purchase two CNC machines.
