Community-Driven Flood Mitigation for Underserved Communities in Wilson, NC

Organization:
City of Wilson
Amount:
$875,331.00
Program Area:
Flood Mitigation and Recovery Program
County of Applicant:
Wilson
Year:
2024
Description:

Nash Street, Hines Street, and SE Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway in East Wilson experience frequent flooding as a result of an undersized drainage infrastructure. Light rainfall causes flooding that damages public and private property and obstructs vehicles, including public safety vehicles. Wilson proposes to construct an underground detention system to increase offline flood storage. The city will perform a hydrology study to determine the appropriate size and style of underground storage. Golden LEAF grant funds will be used for engineering and construction. Households and other private entities in the immediate project area and users of the road will benefit from this project.
