The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to provide support to Caswell County to assist with developing a program designed to improve the performance of students in Math I. Funds will be used to establish and equip three middle and one high school lab to be used for in-school instruction and extended learning through after-school tutoring. Currently, only 38% of students in Caswell County Schools pass Math I, which is significantly below the state average of 60%. With Golden LEAF support, teachers will be able to provide after-school tutoring and STEM experiences through Pitsco learning labs and provide transportation home for targeted Math I students. All math and science teachers at the schools will be trained to integrate the STEM labs into their core instruction through project-based instruction.
