The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to support the placement of five UNC-Chapel Hill graduates to serve as Carolina College Advising Corps members in high schools in Caldwell, Scotland, Warren, Robeson, and Edgecombe counties for two school years. These advisors will serve twelve designated high schools with the specific intention of increasing the college-going rate of graduates, particularly for first-generation college, underrepresented, and low-income students. Research regarding the College Advising Corps has demonstrated that the program has increased college going rates of students by as much as 14% in economically distressed counties.
