During tropical storms Julia and Hermine and Hurricane Matthew, woody debris such as branches, logs, and stumps was deposited in streams creating an excessive amount of material that impedes water flow and causes excessive erosion and deterioration in Wayne County. Obstructed flow in these streams contributes to continued erosion damage especially in the Grantham and Stoney Creek communities of Wayne County. This Golden LEAF grant will enable the County Soil and Water District to complete stream cleanout projects and thereby reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses, farm fields, poultry and swine facilities, and surrounding natural habitats.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
