Building Resilient Local Meat Supply Chains in the Face of COVID-19: Enhancing Processing Services, Farm Viability, and Market Capacity

Organization:
North Carolina State University
Amount:
$198,843.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Wake
Year:
2020
Description:

This grant provides funding that will leverage $10 million in COVID-19 relief funds directed to North Carolina livestock processors by providing assistance to help them use those funds effectively. It will also support livestock producers who sell bulk meat into the direct-to-consumer market by offering technical assistance and expanding their options for processing. Because some existing processors are operating at full capacity without the ability to schedule producers for services for a year, this project will also address some of the pressures faced by those producers in getting their products to market. Golden LEAF funds will be used for contract personnel, travel, marketing, supplies, and meetings.
