Program Area:

Open Grants Program

County of Applicant:

Durham

Year:

Description:

This grant allowed Reinvestment Partners to expand its cooler space at the Bull City Cool Food Hub, which provided office space and shared-use cold and frozen storage space for local farm products and offered key connections in the local and regional food system for small farms, small businesses, and nonprofits. The cold storage space available prior to the grant was not adequate to meet the needs of clients, including organizations such as Farmer Foodshare, which in 2017 worked with 45 farmers in 21 counties. Beyond the expansion of cold storage space, Golden LEAF funds were used by Reinvestment Partners to provide technical assistance to local food businesses.
