The area along Blounts Creek stretching from S. Cool Street to Person Street experiences frequent flooding that results in road overtopping. During floods, many residents are trapped in their homes until the water recedes. Fayetteville proposes to complete multiple stream restoration activities along Blounts Creek. Golden LEAF grant funds will be used for stream enhancements including floodplain benching and bank stabilization to increase flood storage capacity throughout the creek. Funds from the city and an expected FEMA BRIC grant will be used for this project. Homes, businesses, and other entities in the project area will benefit from this project. Additionally, the city reports that homes will be moved out of the floodplain through the success of this project.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
