Belt Street Drainage Improvements

Organization:
City of Durham
Amount:
$250,000.00
Program Area:
Flood Mitigation Program
County of Applicant:
Durham
Year:
2023
Description:

Frequent flooding impacts many homes along Belt, Worth, and Franklin Streets in Durham. Flooding also affects multiple businesses that operate within the Golden Belt Campus, resulting in property damage to homes and vehicles. An engineering study completed in 2021 identified that flooding along the Belt Street area is caused by undersized infrastructure. The city is 90% complete with designing a solution to these issues. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used for construction costs to upsize piping in the existing storm drainage system. Households and businesses in the immediate project area will benefit from the project. Once completed, the infrastructure will be maintained by the city through its stormwater enterprise fund.
