This award provides funding to Barton College to support expansion of its nursing program to meet the growing demand for nurses. Barton plans to expand and upgrade its clinical simulation labs with high-fidelity simulators and new ventilators to increase the number of nursing students it can train each year. The college plans to hire two new faculty members by 2025, including a Clinical Simulation Lab Director who will also teach undergraduate nursing students. These changes will allow Barton to grow from a space- and resource-constrained cap of 80 students in its BSN program to its approved capacity of 120 students, and to increase the number of students retained in the program and who pass the licensure exam the first time. In addition to supporting growth of the BSN program, the simulation labs will also be used by Barton’s new FNP program, an expansion of its existing MSN program. Golden LEAF funds will be used for equipment and construction costs.
