Description:

This award provides funding to Lenoir Community College (LCC) to support a new regional Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE) that will house aviation and advanced manufacturing programs. LCC received a $25 million state appropriation to construct the ACE, which will be located at the Global TransPark. In addition to the existing aviation programs, LCC will add an in-demand program for aircraft maintenance. Central to the ACE will be a new Aviation Academy for high school students in Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties. The Academy will offer programs in aviation management, aviation maintenance, aircraft construction and renovation, manned and unmanned pilot, computer integrated machining, mechanical engineering, and industrial system technologies. LCC will also leverage relationships with regional aviation and advanced manufacturing industries to provide work-based learning opportunities. The project anticipates recruiting 80 students annually through both curriculum and continuing education programs to complete credentials, placing students into jobs with partner employers, and increasing the pipeline for aviation employers in the region. Golden LEAF funds will be for training equipment and professional development.
