Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the Iredell-Statesville School District (ISS) to open the first agriculture and science-focused early college high school in central North Carolina. Through this initiative, ISS will partner with Mitchell Community College to establish a north campus. The campus will offer a college transfer program, an Agricultural Technology program, and work-based credentials/certificates for early college high school students and traditional college students. Northern Iredell County has an agriculture-based economy and is currently underserved by the community college. The early college will provide training options for students to prepare them for employment in local agriculture and life sciences industries. Initial enrollment for the early college program is expected to be 100 students, growing to a total enrollment of 250 over three years. Golden LEAF funds will be used for building improvements, equipment and supplies, professional development and personnel.
